The WHY

Hello again from lovely Zanzibar. Meanwhile we arrived on the island 3 days ago and we are quite busy with organizing stuff.

You may have read the About Us page and also our first blog entry. So you know how it all started. But you do not know why we decided to move from Germany.

Actually this is quite easy to describe for me- NOW.
The question is why did we have the strong wish to go to Hakuna Matata Land? Let me explain it to you. In Germany and also in Turkey as in most of the Western Countries in the world society is dictating our way of life. If you align to our society’s requirements you are living a safe live in the big security net the society offers. But what if you start asking yourself the question why some things are as they are? Why do we envy our neighbour’s wealth, our colleague’s success or our best friend’s beauty? Why can’t we not just love ourselves as we are?

The answer is quite simple: Because as soon as we leave the border of society’s standard we are lost. Just to demonstrate: my sister for example was always proud of what I had become, of which companies I worked for. She was also very excited when I got promoted again and again. I think this is for once because for sure she is my sister and is happy when my live is going well and not upside down but on the other side she is just playing our world’s game very well. In other words she as most of the other people learned that you are successful when you are in the norm….Whatever the norm for the specific country is. You cannot imagine how shocked my friends and cilleagues always were when I said that the next promotion is only another useless job for which I get paid well. They just did not understand it.

To always be conform to the norm leads to the fact that our lives are full of stress. In my case I started eating unhealthy, did less sports, drank too much alcohol too frequently and my skin was playing mean games with my face and my body.

Living at the beach here in Zanzibar means something different. People here have almost no stress, they are not in a hurry and they don’t care who you are and what you do as long as you have an honest and goodhearted character. Don’t think we are naive…. we know that the start of our new lives will be more stressful than our lives in Berlin….but every morning when we are kissed by the sun we forget last days stress and live each day as it comes….

We will see if we will ever achive the 100% Hakuna Matata mentality, but one thing is for sure. It is worth trying.

So folks, Life is better at the beach!

Lots of Love,

Claudia and Musti
